Five Highlights in the Coastal Villages

Local Services and the Taste of the Coast

The Coastal Villages have everything you need for a comfortable and fulfilling everyday life. In Nyborg you’ll find a modern grocery store with a post office and service point, while Pålänge charms visitors with its round-the-clock country store. In summer, Marahamn becomes a natural meeting place – Kalix’s largest marina – where you can stroll along the piers, buy a treat from the kiosk, or sit down and enjoy the sea breeze.

Swimming, Boating, and Camping

The Coastal Villages offer countless ways to enjoy the sea. In Storön you’ll find a family-friendly campsite and a long, shallow beach, while Ryssbält is home to three beautiful bathing spots. Every village has its own harbour, giving easy access to the rich fishing waters of the Bay of Bothnia.

Unforgettable Experiences in Nature

Discover The Trail of Seven Orchids in Storön – a unique walk lined with rare plants. In Nyborg, you can follow the wheelchair-accessible nature and culture trail along the shoreline, or visit Byträsket with its rare bog myrtle, or take in Inre Gölen, a botanical gem. Bird enthusiasts will find Ytterfjärden–Arrasfjärden an easily accessible paradise. Climb Degerberget for sweeping views across the Bay of Bothnia, or follow Pålängeån for a nature experience rich in both flora and fauna that shift with the seasons.

History by the Coast

In Ryssbält, boathouses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries tell the story of the region’s fishing heritage. Local heritage centres in Björnholmen and Nyborg, along with the community hall in Storön, bring history to life and offer welcoming spaces where culture and traditions continue to thrive.

Active All Year Round

Summer’s swimming and fishing give way to winter’s snowy adventures. The Coastal Villages offer snowmobile trails, illuminated ski tracks, and ice rinks for both bandy and ice hockey. Those wanting to become part of village life will find local clubs and community groups offering activities and gatherings throughout the year.
